Medicare in Clinton: what to know

Clinton is one of the oldest towns in the area. It started as Mount Salus in the 1820s, took its current name in 1828, and counted 28,100 residents in the 2020 census. The brick streets of Olde Towne sit near Mississippi Christian University, which went by Mississippi College until June 2026. The Natchez Trace Parkway runs along the west side of town, and I-20 has three exits in the city. The university dates to 1826, which makes it the oldest college in Mississippi.

For hospital care, Merit Health Central on Chadwick Dr. in Jackson is the nearest big hospital. UMMC, Mississippi Baptist and St. Dominic's are farther east in the medical district. These belong to four different systems, so a Medicare Advantage plan may include some and leave out others. If you see a UMMC specialist and a Merit Health family doctor, make sure both are in the plan. A Medicare Supplement covers any doctor who accepts Medicare.

Clinton is in Hinds County, so the Hinds County Human Resource Agency is a local resource. It runs rural transportation and weekday meals in Edwards and Terry, with home delivery as an option, from its office on Maddox Rd. in Jackson. Call 601-923-3930 to ask what's open to Clinton residents. JTRAN buses and JTRAN Paratransit serve the City of Jackson and don't run out to Clinton. Inside Jackson, riders 60 and older and Medicare card holders pay a discount JTRAN fare with ID.

The Quisenberry Library on East Northside Dr. is Clinton's branch of the Jackson/Hinds Library System, open six days a week. Library computers are a handy place to print plan papers or log in to your Medicare account. The city's Living Young program plans activities for residents over 50. The CMPDD Area Agency on Aging covers Hinds County for meals, homemaker help and caregiver support. For free counseling, call Mississippi SHIP. For plan prices matched to your doctors, call us.
